Why We Don't Install Customer-Supplied Auto Parts

Quality parts, reliable repairs, and your peace of mind.

We understand why customers sometimes ask if they can purchase their own parts and have us install them. With so many online retailers offering automotive parts at attractive prices, it can seem like an easy way to save money on repairs.

At Accomplished Auto, however, we have a policy of supplying the parts we install. It's not about insisting on the most expensive parts or limiting your options. It's about making sure the job is done right, the parts are dependable, and we can stand behind the repair.

Here's why that matters.

Not All Parts Are Created Equal

One of our biggest concerns is the quality of parts available online. Along with reputable brands, there are plenty of cheaply made products and even counterfeit parts packaged to look like the real thing.

This isn't just an inconvenience. It can be a serious safety concern.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has warned about counterfeit airbags that may fail to deploy correctly or even send metal fragments into the vehicle during a crash.

AAA also cautions consumers about off-brand parts and counterfeit products sold under familiar brand names.

We use both original equipment and quality aftermarket parts, choosing what we believe will provide the best combination of reliability and value for your vehicle.

The Right Part Makes All the Difference

Finding the correct part isn't always as simple as entering your vehicle's year, make, and model into an online catalog.

Vehicles can have different components depending on their production date, engine, trim level, or factory options. Even professional parts catalogs occasionally get it wrong.

We've made exceptions to our customer-supplied parts policy over the years, and unfortunately, those experiences have often reinforced why we have it. Parts arrive that don't fit, don't work correctly, or simply don't meet the quality we expect.

When that happens, it can mean delays, extra labor, and additional costs. Sometimes a poor-quality part works initially, only to fail weeks or months later.

We would rather avoid those problems from the start.

A Warranty Should Cover More Than Just the Part

When we purchase parts through our established suppliers, we have access to manufacturer support, warranty assistance, and a clear process for handling defective components.

If a customer purchases a part online and it fails, the seller may replace the part, but who pays to remove the defective one and install the replacement? What happens if the seller refuses the claim?

As AAA explains in its article on automotive parts pricing, a parts warranty alone doesn't necessarily cover the labor required to replace a failed component.

At Accomplished Auto, qualifying repairs are backed by our NAPA AutoCare Nationwide 36-month/36,000-mile Peace of Mind Warranty.

That's a big part of the value of having a professional shop handle the complete repair.

Professional Repairs Come With Responsibility

When we install a part on your vehicle, we're taking responsibility for more than the installation itself.

We need to be confident that the part is correct, safe, and suitable for the job. Even when a customer supplies a part and offers to sign a waiver, that doesn't necessarily release a professional repair shop from liability if something goes wrong.

Our insurance coverage also has limitations involving defective parts and completed repairs. Using established suppliers gives us additional support and options if a component fails, rather than leaving everyone trying to figure out who is responsible.

That's especially important when we're working on critical systems like brakes, steering, suspension, and other components that affect your safety.

Our Goal Is a Repair You Can Count On

We know automotive repairs can be expensive, and we always want to help our customers make informed decisions about their vehicles.

The lowest price on a part doesn't always mean the lowest overall repair cost, especially if the job has to be done twice.

By choosing the parts we install, we can better control quality, confirm proper fitment, and provide the warranty support our customers deserve.

At the end of the day, we want you to leave our shop with confidence in your vehicle, not just a repair bill.

If you have questions about the parts we've recommended or would like to discuss repair options and pricing, we're always happy to explain our recommendations.

Our goal is simple: honest advice, quality repairs, and keeping you safely on the road.
